Was wondering what people here thought of the channel 4 documentary Interview with a Poltergeist?
For those not familiar with the story, it is an account of a young girl who was surrounded by strange paranormal occurences in her home in Enfield (UK) in the 1970's. Incredible eye witness accounts and things happening which would have been difficult for anyone to fake (even for an adult let alone a young child). Things flying around the house, strange noises, even accounts of the girl flying and speaking in another voice while keeping her mouth shut. Some, of course, will doubt the story, or anything supernatural for that matter, but even the sceptics on the channel 4 show seemed to struggle to provide explanations.
The one thing I do doubt though is this: That the "poltergeist" was actually a 'ghost'. The Bible calls these things demons. They masquarade as ghosts to serve the wider purpose of making people think that the afterlife means coming back as a ghost when, in fact, the Bible states that we are all appointed to die once then face God's judgement.

A safe place for:
Those who have been troubled by the occult or evil spirits and are looking to find help and support; Ex occultists who are now Christians; and those still currently involved in some aspect of occultism (wicca, witchcraft, paganism, spiritualism, etc.) to ask questions and find out more about the Chirstian faith.

It's definitely an interesting case. There is some reasonably good evidence to suggest that she was making stuff up - she admitted to trying to fool on a few occasions the parapsychologist who was studying her case, but there is also some independent verification of physical phenomena, namely the journalist and photographer who witnessed the toys flying through the air, and the police officer who witnessed the chair move on its own.
The victim is now an adult, and still maintains that the events were real.
Personally, if I'd been around, I would considered the need for a blessing of the house, and possibly an exorcism, to take place.
I'm the poster of the above comment. I've done some more research on the Enfield case, and I've listened to audio recordings of conversations made with the poltergeist (ones that did not get put in the documentary), and I notice that at one point the poltergeist indicates his fear that Maurice Gross, the parapsychologist, will "kill him." Maurice Gross asks, "how can I kill you if I can't see you?" The poltergeist answers, "by praying to God."
Hi anon,
Good to see someone posting here! Thanks.
One of the investigators (I think it was Maurice) said that he would have been surprised if the girls didn't try and trick the team on occassion as this is part of normal chidhood behaviour. Those doubtful of the case tend to seize on this but Maurice does have a point here.
Didn't know about the audio recordings. Very interesting especially when you consider the nature of demons as presented in the gospel accounts. Is that the audio recordings named after the book This House is Haunted by Maurice? Saw it on ebay. May get hold of a copy if so. Thanks for the info. Very informative!
Yes, those are the audio recordings made by Dr. Maurice Grosse, the parapsychologist who studied and documented the Enfield Poltergeist case. The book, "This House is Haunted" was written by Guy Lyon Playfair, who also investigated the Enfield Case. Both Grosse and Playfair believed the experiences of the Hogdson family to be genuine. Maurice Grosse made extensive recordings of his conversations with the being, and some of those recordings can be found online. Besides the typical signs of demonic possession - foul language, distinct personality, objects/people levitating, one recording in particular caught my attention. Enfield Poltergeist Interview Tape 12
The full-length documentary is here and some more recordings between Dr. Grosse and the poltergeist/creature/demon are here
Stumbled on this blog in a roundabout way. You should updated it more often, it's an interesting topic.
Anyways, one must tip their hat to Dr. Gross, that takes cajones to interview like that.
I believe this event did happen, but the original was a boy, some of things said in it were put in there to hype the film up, but most of it were real events.
As someone who has and still sees demon activities happen to me and in my own home, i would challenge anyone that would disagree with it happening, demons are very clever but one thing they do hate and thats the name of Jesus, and although i know this to be true i still fear the demons i hear.
smiles..
I am reading "the Demonologist" a book about the lives and works of Ed and Lorraine Warren and they mention this case in particular. According to the Warrens they flew to England three different times to help this family. They claim that this case made the Amityville case look like a walk in the park as the Enfield case involved at least seven demons! If you read the book they give an example of all the voices transcribed on tapes! It sounds truly mind boggling
Demons my arse! The energy theory explains it far better than blaming it on some fictitious "entities"! And one of the investigators, Guy Lyon Playfair, stated that the reason no exorcist was brought in as that type of nonsense tends to make things worse. Annalise Michel anyone? Remember her? The poor girl who was having epileptic fits and was starved to death by religious idiots believing she was possessed by "demons"?
I dont think leaveing any comment on here is ever going to convince anyone that its all real, or even that demons exsist, for those of us who have experienced them then its easy for us to believe they exsist, but for those that have never had the experience then its hard to believe in them. Unfortunatly some people go to the extreme of believing that they need to beat it out of a child or anyone to that matter and sadly some have died as a result of over the top zelous people that would rather see a demon in everything than see that there may even be a physical problem. I thank God that im not that type of person.

I watched it & thought it was demonic. But it could have been triggered by that fact that the kids were pre-teens-many accounts of poltergeists are where there are pre-teens/teens. I think lyn is getting it mixed up with the exorcist movie.
